Virasat - Made by HER
Transforming surplus fabric into opportunities through upcycling, skill development, women empowerment, and senior mentorship.
At HCF, we believe that the highest common factor is CARE—care for people,
communities, and the environment. Guided by this belief, we are pleased to present
Virasat: Made by HER, a meaningful intergenerational initiative that aligns deeply with
our shared commitment to women’s empowerment, skill development, and community
well-being.
About the Initiative
Virasat: Made by HER is a circular impact model designed to transform surplus into
significance by bringing together young girls and senior citizens in a shared journey of
learning, creating, mentoring, and enterprise.
• Surplus textiles such as gently used clothes, fabric, sarees, curtains, and bedsheets
are collected and repurposed.
• Young girls are trained in practical upcycling and stitching skills.
• Senior citizens serve as mentors and resource leaders, sharing traditional skills and
life experience.
Finished products are collaboratively marketed and sold by both generations,
fostering confidence and entrepreneurial learning.
Core Objectives
1 Purpose from Surplus – To promote environmental responsibility by redirecting
textile waste away from landfills and converting it into useful, marketable products.
2 Skill Development through Creation – To equip girls with hands-on,
livelihood-oriented skills such as stitching, tailoring, upcycling, and product design.
3 Dignity through Mentorship – To engage senior citizens as active mentors,
providing them renewed purpose, respect, and meaningful social participation.
4 Intergenerational Learning – To build bridges between generations where wisdom
meets energy, and experience meets aspiration.
5 Enterprise & Sales Exposure – To introduce participants to real-world selling,
communication, pricing, and customer engagement.
Expected Impact
• Reduction in textile waste through conscious reuse
• Income-generating skills and confidence-building for girls
• Emotional and social empowerment of senior citizens
• Early exposure to entrepreneurship and financial awareness
• A community built on dignity, collaboration, and purpose
