Meet Soni

15/5/26, 7:30 am

From surplus textile to a symbol of warmth and tradition — Soni’s creativity gave discarded fabric a beautiful new life as a handcrafted bandhanwaar.
At HCF, we believe every skill deserves recognition, every resource deserves renewal, and every individual deserves an opportunity to shine.

Soni is a young learner filled with dreams, curiosity, and untapped potential — waiting for a spark, guidance, and an opportunity to grow.

Coming from a modest background, Soni always carried a quiet creativity within her. She loved observing colors, fabrics, and handmade designs, but never imagined that these simple interests could one day become a pathway towards confidence and self-belief. Like many young girls, she needed not only opportunities, but also encouragement, mentorship, and a space where she felt seen, valued, and capable.

Through HCF’s Virasat: Made by HER initiative, Soni found that space.

At Virasat, she was introduced to the world of upcycling, stitching, and creative craftsmanship using recycled and surplus materials. What began as small learning sessions slowly transformed into a journey of self-discovery. Under the guidance of mentors and senior citizens who shared their skills, wisdom, and experiences, Soni learned how discarded fabrics could be transformed into beautiful handcrafted products filled with meaning and purpose.

Every stitch she learned became more than a skill.

It became a lesson in patience, creativity, sustainability, and confidence.

As Soni worked alongside women and elders from the community, she began opening up, sharing ideas, asking questions, and expressing herself with greater confidence. The initiative not only helped her develop practical life and vocational skills, but also taught her the importance of dignity, teamwork, and believing in her own abilities.

Today, Soni proudly creates handcrafted products from recycled materials, contributing towards a more sustainable future while nurturing her own dreams and aspirations. What once seemed like waste in the eyes of others has now become a source of creativity, opportunity, and hope in her hands.

Her journey reflects the true spirit of Virasat — where generations come together, skills are passed on with care, and young girls are empowered to shape brighter futures for themselves and their communities.

Soni’s story is not just about learning a craft.

It is about discovering confidence, purpose, and the courage to grow.

Because sometimes, all a young learner needs is one opportunity, one mentor, and one community that believes in her.
