Through HCF Pustak Parivar, The Hi-Tech Cares Foundation helped fulfil Dr. Sanjay Dhawan’s vision of bringing books into the OPD waiting areas at Indira Gandhi Eye Hospital & Research Center. The initiative transforms waiting time into moments of reading, reflection, and learning—adding warmth, compassion, and dignity to the patient experience.
One of mine was to have good books in our OPD waiting areas, so that patients and their attendants could spend their waiting time reading something meaningful instead of simply watching the clock. A good book has the power to calm the mind, inspire hope and perhaps even begin a new habit of reading.
I have always believed that a hospital should not only treat illness but also nurture the human spirit. Something as simple as a library in the OPD can quietly say that we care about our patients as people, not just as cases.
I am deeply thankful to The Hi-Tech Cares Foundation for making this dream a reality by generously donating books to our hospital. Their thoughtful gesture has added warmth and soul to our waiting areas.
There is a quote that has stayed with me for many years:
“He who does not read good books has no advantage over one who cannot read them.”
I hope these books will do much more than help patients pass the time. I hope they spark curiosity, encourage reading, and perhaps leave someone just a little happier or wiser than when they walked in.
